We have a guest bathroom (used rarely), and the cold water pressure in the bath/shower is almost non-existant. The sink next to it and the toilet seem to have no problems. I read in other threads that flushing it will likely work, but I don't know how to do that. The house was built in 1983. The fixtures and plumbing are all original, and I don't know what kind of pipes we have. I also don't know the brand name of the fixtures, but I am providing a picture of the assemly. I can use a screw driver but am quite the novice otherwise. I would love to try myself, but need explicit instructions.

Hi Heather.. hope this picture helps.

You need to shut down the water and remove the handle (screw under cap at end of handle) and then disassemble according to the ATTACHED IMAGE at bottom left (click on that image). It is not exactly your shower valve, but the parts inside should be identical. After removing the parts and the cartridge, the you will need to pulse the water to try and remove any debris in line (cover faucet with rag when purging debris)... if that is indeed the issue.

Check this out and let me know how it goes. NOTE on the drawing the retainer clip.. that is hard to remove and hard to place back in... but not impossible. To remove retainer clip I use a pair of needlenose pliers and pull upward. To re-install the clip I squeeze the clip a lillte and slide in place.. then tap down a bit to finally seat the clip (do not drop that clip!!! Without it the cartridge is free floating and you will not be able to restore water to house until clip is placed back in correctly)

Also, to remove cartridge, after retainer clip removed now... install handle back on to stem and then give a good yank on the cartridge.. it just pulls forward (locked in by retainer clip... will need to push cartridge all the way in to re-install the retainer clip). Hopefully, that gets you started... keep me posted.

Also, note that if removing cartridge and purging debris does not work you will need to replace the cartridge...GOOD NEWS THOUGH...call 1800BUYMOEN and they will send the part and shipping for FREE!! All moen faucets guaranteed for life...the cartridge part number is a 1225 or similar..see image. Also, compare your cartridge to picture to be sure a MOEN valve... I am confident that it is.. but compare to be 100% sure.. OK?

I would be inclined to agree that this is a Moen product, however IIRC, the Moen limited lifetime warranty does not go back any further than 1986. Prior to 1986 Moen only carried a 1 or 2 year warranty on faucet parts inc cartridges. Just my 2 cents worth.

The instructions above worked beautifully. A lot of junk came out when we pulsed the water. Worked like a charm.
