    Depression/anxiety and hypothyroid.link?
I am a diagnosed bipolar II disorder rapid cycler. I have been recently dealing with a pretty crappy about of depression, complete with anxiety, irritability, flashbacks, cutting and crying spells. I have just started trauma/abuse therapy, which is more emotional than the regular present-day stuff therapy I had been receiving.

I also have an out of whack thyroid - hypothyroidism, and I know the if your thyroid is out of whack, it can throw your whole body off. So is there a link between the thyroid stuff and depression/anxiety?

I recently started taking Invega, my doctor said it should help to take the edge off. But during my anxiety attack last evening, I took the Invega, Synthroid for thyroid, and an ativan to help calm me down, and it didn't help. It helped put me to sleep, but I'm just as anxious this morning as I was before I fell asleep. Any ideas? Is there anything stronger I can take for anxiety? I feel like pacing up and down the sidewalk and pulling my hair out - literally - I'm just not sure what to do at this point.:(

    Hi there.
I have no exerience with Thyroid problems Im afraid, but the depression and anxiety I have.
Mine was post natal from having my son.
I notice you didn't mention Propranolol, it's a beta blocker, have you not tried that? Its for anxiety and panic attacks.
I felt suicidal, scared to go out, wondering if I was losing my mind, wouldn't go to the shops without company, couldn't sleep because I thought something might happen or I wouldn't wake up.
I know how you're feeling to an extent, I may be no help at all, but you're not alone. All I can hope is that you have a good Doctor.

Do all the doctors know all the meds you are taking? Yes, thyroid problems can cause emotional issues... you need to make sure your meds work with each other. Its tricky to know what is causing some of the emotions. And if you are going through that trauma therapy, your anxiety will likely be higher! Are they giving you things to do at home to reduce anxiety?

Oh, and you might want to go and get your thyroid checked to make sure your emotions are not from that.
