    Lawsuit settlement
About a month ago, our lawyers reached an out-of-court settlement with the defendants in our lawsuit. We have not seen any money. How long does it take to receive settlement money? Thanks.:)

Who were the defendants ? A company, insurance company, just a person?

When according to the settlement where they to pay.

It can be anything from a few days to they decide to refuse to pay.

This is a question for your Attorney who knows the State you are in and the circumstances of the settlement - insurance company? Individual?

I've seen it take 14 days, I've seen it take three months.

Plus the Attorney "usually" gets a check cut in your name AND his, you come in and endorse the check, he endorses the check, he deposits the check, it clears (and insurance "checks" are sometimes drafts which take longer), you go back in and pick up your share and sign a receipt for his.

Call the attorney's office and ask them what's the hold up as this should have been done and over by now and you should be going to the bank with your check.

This isn't true. Depending on the entity cutting the check, it could take varying amounts of time. There are also organizations that have longer to pay as set forth by statute. Usually you can expect a check in hand between 30-60 days, but every circumstance if different. Call your lawyer and ask.

And, of course, if this was already in litigation, if there are "juveniles" involved, all of the necessary papers have to be signed and filed before the check writing process even begins.
