    Claiming Lifetime credit after graduation
    Hi,

I graduated in June 2006, I paid my tuition from my own pocket. Even after graduation I'm still making monthly payments for the tuition that I owe, the school let me do this to ease my payments... NOTE: this is NOT a student loan I'm paying.

I'm not getting a 1098-T anymore ever since I graduated, and the school AIs it is because they don't send this form to students who had graduated and still paying.
How can I claim all the tuition I've paid since June 2006 without a 1098-T? I have all the receipts and proof.
    Thanks!

Yes, you CAN claim the Lifetime Learning credit for tuition paid in 2006, even though you graduated.

However, you CANNOT claim it for 2007, because you attended no classes in 2007 and the tuition is for 2006 and earlier classes.

Even though you and the scholl do not consider this to be a student loan, it has the same effect in the eyes of the IRS.
