Title of vampire book set in Los Angeles
Around 1984 someone lent me a book and it was a vampire story circa 1980 Los Angeles. It was an excellent thriller and I especially enjoyed it because I grew up in LA. I have tried to find this book and have not been successful. I think I remember part of the wording on the jacket was "they hunger, they thirst" and I've done searches etc. but with no luck. I also recall the owner of the book saying he stumbled across it in an obscure book store. Does anyone know the title of the book I'm looking for?

Maybe it's Interview with the Vampire by Ann Rice. It was written in 1976 and based in San Francisco.
Although you said it was written in 1980 and based in Los Angelas.
Kind of similar.

You're quit welcome!
I myself absolutely love vampires especially the steamy vampire romances. I think they are dangerously attractive :)... if they existed which in my dreams they do!
If you like vampire books in particular then try the author Nina Bangs. She writes a killer vampire romance that will leave you wishing you'r personal love life turned into that.

I'm not a big vampire fan but I love a good book and a scary book is a thrill to read. There was a line in this book I loved... something like, "She learned there were things worse than death." In fact I've used that line many times over the years and it's served me well but this was a very specific book I'm looking for.
It's funny I'm not getting more feedback on this. I was sort of blown away when I couldn't locate the title on line... I mean isn't everything on line and the fact that the person who loaned it to me specifically declared it a "great find" that he stumbled on in the back of some obscure bookstore... just sort of adds to the creepiness of it.

I'm glad you found it! Actually I went onto Google last night because it was bugging me that I couldn't find the book that you were looking for. I typed in "1980 Vampire book in LA" and guess what came up? "They Thirst" by Bobert McCammon. How funny is that?
