    Can a credit card company garnish my state &federal income tax checks?

    Some collection agencies can. They have to notify you first and usually they will garnish your wages first. If they haven't sent you anything about it than it will just collect interest and go against your credit score and be on your report. I would cancel it asap and as long as you pay something even 20 bucks a month they shouldn't do anything as long as you make an attempt.
