My dog will not take walks!
I have a 15 week old min pin who will not take walks! He is a very active and social dog. When my boyfriend and I first got him, he would walk around outside a lot. Then, whenever I tried walking him on my own without my boyfriend, he would just sit there on the pavement! Wouldn't move. My boyfriend experienced the same results. Now when we both go outside to walk him, he sits on the pavement for some reason. He just looks at us when we call him and looks away and sits there.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening or how to correct the behavior? I also want him to be able to walk without both of us having to be there. It seems that he sees us as a unit. Help! Thanks.

Is there some reason he may be scared to take walks, perhaps something frightening on the route, like other animals, loud noises, etc.

Nope, it's just a quiet neighborhood court. He's been acting up for the past week or so. We coaxed him out to walk once this week and he saw a cat and started barking (the usual when he sees other animals he wants to play with). When he walks with us, he'll walk a bit, stop, and be stubborn for the longest time. And then we'll have to coax him to walk again with a treat and he'll repeat the process. :(

It does sound like something has scared him, do as you were saying and walk him a little at a time and he will get used to it...

Perhaps you can get one of those dog bags and carry him down the street, and then he will be excited to walk?

Today I tried giving him extra treats when we were outside to see what that did. At first my boyfriend tried walking him out on his own and he didn't budge. But when I came outside as well, he looked eager to walk. We gave him a bunch of treats during the walk, especially when there were scary things going on around him (lawn mower, cars). It seems to have worked, but he won't walk with one of us yet!

My boxer went through a phase when she was about 6 months old where she would walk a short distance then just plop down! I came to realize that she was getting tired quickly and the temperature played a big role as well. I just walked her a little more each week, and not when it was too hot or too cold, and now we walk about 10-15 miles per week and she does great.

Some puppies are reluctant to walk on leash at first. Usually getting out in front and coaxing them, slapping your thighs will get them moving. If not, drop back behind them and run by in baby steps calling ''Go, go, go!'' in a happy, excited voice. It is gentle and always seems to work.

Take some yummy treats that he really enjoys and give them to him every so often when he begins to walk this way he will see walking as a good thing! :) Good luck !

Greetings again,

Hi,
We have a 5 month old Boston Terrier. We leave him in the kitchen while we are at work, which is a pretty big area for the little guy. However, when we come home in the evening he has resorted to shredding his potty pad, walking in his own poop, and peeing in his bed. We are baffled. We know...
