    About Crohns Disease
My name is Adam, I am 21, I have a friend called Sarah, she's 22, she's a smoker. She told me she has crohns disease, I am assuming she's already been to the doctor and been diagnosed with Crohns. So today when I talked to her she complained that she had a tummy ache, and been vomiting a lot since 2.30 am (it was about 4:30pm when I talked to her) From my very limited experience I suspect it might have been stomach flu but the thing is we have absolutely no idea where she could have got the stomach flu bug from. But we are not sure if its her crohns acting up again... What exactly are the symptoms of the stomach flu and crohn disease? Could it be her crohns? And also is there a way for me to help her (me and her live 2hrs plane ride away so I can't go to where she is since I have other commitments) but would appreciate any recommendations that you think I could give her.. and so I know what to do if this shall happen again... Your help greatly appreciated..

    Tummy ache... possibly crohn's.

    Vomiting... not so much crohn's.

Was she given prescript meds? A common side effect of medication of crohn's is vomiting...

I can't give you a proper diagnosis without seeing her... much less with such vague symptoms as vomiting, fever, and abdominal pain. Fever and abdominal pain are common symptoms of crohn's but vomiting... is not. I asked you if she had prescription meds given to her. Has she?

    Has she called her doctor?

Sneeze is right. She needs to see her doctor, she may be having a flair up, it might be something else it is impossible to tell over the internet. If she is losing a lot of fluids she risks dehydration.

I would recommend this site for information and support involving the disease.

Avenger, please understand that we volunteer our time here and have other commitments such as family and work, so we are not always able to answer immediately.

I will stand with Sneezy and TL here. She needs to see her doctor. It could be a number of things including a Crohn's exacerbation. However, without knowing her complete medical history, or without being able to do a physical on her, any info we give here could be dangerous to her health.

If she has been vomiting that much it is imperative that she seek medical attention as it is very common for patients with Crohn's to become dehydrated, and the vomiting will make the dehydration worse.

Please have her seek medical attention ASAP.

Oh and by the way, I asked her if she takes prescription meds, and she said she doesn't because they make her sicker... okay I will tell her that she need to go see a doctor, gee she's probably hate me for this and think I'm a control freak even though I am just really worried... thanks a lot dudes! And I will let you know what her doctor says.

    From Adam
She can be having a viral illness AND a flare of her Crohn's (one can trigger the other). Crohn's may affect the upper gastrointestinal tract. Definitely she should see her doctor, and keep drinking small amounts of rehydrating solution (Gastrolyte) every 15 minutes until then. Of note: if Crohn's diagnosis is confirmed, smoking can triple your risk of flare, and make disease very difficult to control...

My daughter suffered for months with Crohn's Disease. The medical doctors were no help at all. We found help when we took her to a homeopathic doctor. Diet has a great deal to do with how bad the symptoms get. Organic foods and homeopathic remedies have been the answer for my daughter. I hope your girlfriend finds the help she needs.
