Evicting unwanted people from my home
How do I go about evicting someone from my home in Long Beach, CA? I am an elderly disabled man who rented out a room in my home. The lady and her son refuse to pay rent, and are trying to take over my home. I have asked them to leave and they ignore me. I am on a fixed income and I can't get around very well. What can I do to get them out? What are my rights?

Well, there is a few things you should do. First off, tell them they MUST pay rent if they wish to stay there. Also mention that you will not hesitate to call the cops. If they DO NOT decide to pay rent, inform the local authorities. Call the LBPD non-emergency line at 562-435-6711 (I did the duty of finding this number for you). This number is used for people in your situation, and also for advice. Tell the authorities your situation in full detail and explain what you are trying to do. Feel free to message me at any time with any comments and also to keep me informed.

Generally the police do not get involved in landlord tenant disputes. You will have to file formal eviction proceedings against them. Is there a senior center that you go to where someone can help you file the forms?

This is not a Police matter - at least in NYS their hands are tied unless you are being abused or have an Order to evict.
You will have to begin eviction proceedings - perhaps a neighbor will help you. In some areas Senior Services is a big help; they are funded (usually) by the County.

Do you have someone to help you, but you give them a demand for the rent, and/or a demand for them to move if you just want them out. If they don't move you file for a formal eviction in housing court. If they are a danger to you, then you call the police
