Probable paternity, worthy of any soap opera script.
OK, I was just presented with a possible situation that I just do not believe. Here we go... is it possible for two brothers to be tested for paternity on a single child and get an overwhelmingly positive result for both daddy to be's? A friend who has no knowledge in genealogy, or any specific science for that matter, feels that the DNA shared between siblings would be similar enough to generate a 99.9% positive result from either brother.

Is this possible? Or, is it more probable that one of the brothers would be clearly found to be the child's father, while the other "father to be"s results would show some genetic characteristics shared, but not enough to be mistaken for being the child's father? Thank you all in advance for your assistance with this soap opera-esque conundrum!

If this was the case we could never trust DNA testing again. No it isn't possible, one of them has to be the father and his DNA will prove it. Their DNA shows they are siblings and that's all.

No, the DNA is different enough that it will tell which of the brothers is the father. This actually happened to a very close friend of mine, we had to laugh when he and his brother both got served papers, ** we can also say there were not real happy with each other.

If a family member of the father was tested alone, the test would show enough to indicate he was a close match. A person could get convicted on that, if there was no other family members to test. But if all were tested, the real father would stand out.
