    Sewer back-up into my basement
    My sewer backs up in my basement every time it rains, or we use the washer. After cleaning the clean out within 15 to 20 days it backs up again. What can I do to prevent this from happening?

    Have you tried to snake the drain line from the main cleanout yet?

    Raining makes your sewer back up? Are you on septic system, and if so do you also have a sump pump? Where does to sumppump go to?

    No, I'm hooked up to the city sewer lines. We can't use our washer when the sewer backs up - and my sump pump carries any water out side that falls into the reservoir.

    I'd take a shot at calling the city sewer inspector. Rain should not affect your sewer unless there is a break or leak in the outside lines. Maybe it's the city sewer that backs up or there is an issue at the riser wher you pipe meets theirs. Just a shot. I'd snake the line like MASS suggests.

    Hii Guys:

    Yeah... something wrong with rain water making city sewer back up... and sump pump not attached... Hmmm?

    Anyway Freeland, call the city inspector like Ballenger suggested... Could be that the city sewer is ITSELF backing up and backflowing into you and your neighbor's drains. If so, now is the time to catch that... before the street mains really back up.

    Give information to them.. check with a neighbor or two... and then hopefully they will send out an inspection crew to jet/flush out the manholes/catch basins. Can't hurt to call.

    Then, if no answer from them, yup... time to snake that drain line. Talk to city sewer department/inspector... see what they say.
