I had a recent issue with a storage faacility who's employees were responsible for burglarizing several units, mine bieng one of them. Anyway long story short I had tried to sue the owner on the storage but since the employee was fired before there was a police investigation the court only ordered the storage to let me remove my belongings, without past present or future charges. The storage co. had locked me from my unit and ultimately refused to let me get my things, they had ended up selling my belongings- or this is what I was told, even I had called the police there to help me get my property, they were not much help as they told me they didn't normally handle these types of court judgements. They didn't even make the company open my unit to see if my things may have been there. The court stated they had to let me get my things by the 30th of the month as I went there the day before and the morning of the 30th, & was told my things were already gone. How or what do I do now? Isint the storage company basically violating what the cout had ordered for them to do, and how do I now figure out value on my things?I'm in California

Why were your belongings sold? Were you behind in your rent? I see no other reason for the storage unit to lock you out and then sell your belongings. Storage units have to follow pretty stringent regulations concerning notices to the people who rent the units before they sell anything, at least in NYS.

I don't understand why if an employee stole from you the storage company wasn't responsible, whether the employee still worked there or not. This would be a claim against the company, not the employee. For that matter the company would be responsible if a stranger broke in.

You say the storage unit violated the Court order - what did the Court order say?

This sounds like two issues - a break in with some type of Court order involved and then failure to pay for the unit - am I right?

Are you sure the storage company was served with the order? Do they have a record of who it was sold to?

I would file suit against them for the value of the belongings. Can't see you losing.
