Bathroom sink not draining
Our newly installed bathroom sink is draining extremely slow. A curious thing about the sink is that there is no overflow hole (is that common now?). The sink does drain (and quickly!) when we unscrew the top of the stopper. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a common problem with sinks -- hair and soap -- Q-Tips -- shaving cream
Many things go down a drain -- but by design a sink makes it difficult to use a plunger... A shop vac may help free the plug -- by breaking up the blockage Or you may have to remove the blockage in the trap -- by removing it Place a pan or bucket under trap to catch water when removing the trap Remember not to use sink with trap remove -- tempting way to clean trap |

How high does the pop-up (stopper)come when you normally open the drain? Bath lavatories still have the overflow, don't know why yours doesn't. Don't know why one of mine doesn't. Didn't notice until I had it installed (many years ago). Doesn't effect anything, just don't leave the faucet running unattended.

hkstroud - The pop up only comes up about 1/8 in. Could that be the problem? When I unscrew it the water drains fast! (I don't dare leave it off because it's in the boys' (8,8,6) bathroom! - Hopefully, the boys won't keep the water running!
biggsie - There's nothing in the trap. I really don't believe there is any blockage because when I do unscrew the drain in the sink it drains fast! Thank you |

Hey, see if you can increase the height that the pop up assemly POPS UP! See the picture below? In that picture is a rod with holes and another piece with a ball and a clip on it. Try to go under sink and squeeze the clip and pull clip and that rod with holes in it back so that you can lift the rod with holes in it ONE HOLE HIGHER... then squeeze clip and reinstall onto the rod. That may be all you need to do. Let us know. OK? |
