    Child Custody
Kay so Im getting ready to turn 16 & I live in Ohio with my dad. Until I was 8 I lived with my mom, but then I decided I wanted to live with my dad to be closer to my brothers & sisters. Well now they're all graduated & I don't get along with my dad; AT ALL. He sent me into a very deep depression from age 12 until just last year because he was doing a LOT of drugs & was arrested & put on probation. Hes all Christian now & I'm proud of him for that [ even if he always tries to force his religion on me ]

... there's no recent child abuse. Im a sophomore now, & he hasn't hit me since the 7th grade which was because I didn't come out of the bathroom & say hello to his druggie girlfriend & her kids. Which was pretty ridiculous. Anyway, Im not like an unruly child or whatever, although me & my dad argue I don't cuss him out or any of that pathetic stuff ;; I just REALLY want to live with my mom.

We get along much better, & I'm to the age where I just REALLY need my mom. She only lives 3 hours away but the drive sucks to make once a month. Im willing to change high schools & everything to go live with her, I just really need my mom.

Im not sure how child custody goes in Ohio... I need some advice or information on what to do. I know my mom has to find a lawyer ;; she's in the process of doing so. Just please help!!

Yeah your mom needs to go to the court and ask for modified/revised custody.
She and you can say you are at an age you need your mother.
You can bring up drug issues at your dad's house if it is a problem.

The decision to change custody has to be made by a judge. The judge will listen to your preference, but make a decision on what he thinks is best for you. So it all starts with filing a petition in court for a change.

The proper procedure will be for mom to file a motion to have custody changed from your dad to your mom.
