Statue of limitations on a warrant?
    Hello

My husband was charge with possession 6 years ago (just before we got together) and got a $1000 fine. At that time I was in school and we were just starting we were broke! We were never able to pay the fine in the one-year time frame. We have never been contacted and I would assume they have our address for we file taxes every year. I know that after the one-year was up a warrant should have been issued. Is there a statue of limitations on this warrant?

We have a house now and a beautiful baby. We were just kids. Will we always have this fear over or heads?

Thanks for your help!! Ontario, Canada

Why don't you contact the court and offer to pay what you owe?

My understanding is there is no statute of limitations on the warrant - perhaps they just haven't bothered, perhaps it's slipped through the cracks in the system. If they want to find you they can just have someone "run" your name, no need to go through the tax filings.

I'm sure the fine didn't just go away - your choices seem to be to ask and see what happens, offer to make payments, or ignore it, have him arrested (if the authorities are so inclined) and have that shock and upset in your life.

    I honestly don't know which I would do - !

First you don't know there is a warrant, there may be one, or there may not be one. But there is no statue of limiation to warrants, SOL are between when a crime was committed and when the person is charged,

This warrant would be a bench warrant, for failure to comply with court order,
