State taxes on stock option exercise after leaving US
    Hello,

I was working for a CA based IT company since 2001. I left the company in January 2007 and moved to France for education. I sold my stock options from the company in February and March 2007. My question is will I have to pay California state tax on the proceeds from the stock options. I guess I do have to pay federal taxes on it.

    Thanks
    Amit

    Amit:

You DO have to pay U.S. income taxs on the income, but NOT California taxes as you were NOT a California resident when you sold the options.
