Yesterday I had an incident were I was charged at a store for theft under $5,000. This is not my first offence, I have been charged with similar charges before, and was convicted once in 2001 and I applied for a US weaver recently, I know I was wrong so I was wondering what would be some possible outcomes when I plead guilty to this offence?

"unfortunate incident"?? You are a thief! You have been caught before and how many times have you stolen and not been caught? I hope they deport your butt right out of here.

Sorry, but you are way off base here (as well as being vulgar {which has been edited out}). If you look at my many answers to previous questions from shoplifters who are first time offenders I am sympathetic and helpful. But the OP here admits that not only wasn't this the first time, but its happened several times and he's been convicted at least once. He is an admitted thief. So why should I show any sympathy for such a person? The time to ask for help was when he starterd stealing. And the chutzpah in calling this an "unfortunate incident" (hmm just noticed the unfortunate was edited out of the OP) shows no remorse. No admission of wrongdoing. No I'm not a saint, but I'm not a thief.

No you aren't the only thief in the world. That doesn't excuse stealing. But I did help. You asked what would happen and I said they will probably and hopefully deny your request and deport you.

As for your situation, I would get a lawyer and depending on the amount and if the store is willing to make a deal with you will all determine what happens, you won't get deported... that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard

Ps. What if someone slipped an item into his bag to avoid getting caught himself, I've SEEN this happen in front of me, its called a diversion, I'm not saying that's what happened but wouldn't you consider that an "unfortunate event"

Man sometimes I don't see why people decide they need to play judge and jury just because they can, if your not going to help Don't BOTHER SAYING ANYTHING this isn't a site to bash on people for doing wrong last time I checked

This is so typical. Its not OK for me to "bash" someone who had admitted to stealing on multiple occasions, but its all right for you to bash and insult me (note: I edited out the insults from your posts) because you disagree with my handling of this situation. Sorry guy, but it don't work that way.

The OP admitted to a conviction for theft. He admitted to stealing on multiple occasions. He indicated he was planning on pleading guilty to this instance. I'm not judging him, I'm just calling it like he admitted it.

I see from your other post, you empathize with the OP because you had to deal with a similar situation. I don't empathize because I don't steal. Oh sure, when I was about 10 I got caught stealing a comic book from a local store. The embarrassment and disappointing my parents was enough to cure me and I never stole again. But that's not the case here.

As for deportment, the OP said he was applying for a waiver to get into or stay in the US. Having two convictions for theft on his record is very likely to result in a denial of the waiver which means deportment.

Ok so what was US waiver? Was that to allow you to enter the US? If so, this probably willl prevent it from being granted.

Scott I am coming to your defense.

I do not have sympathy for anyone that steals. This is not the first time he's done this, do you honestly think this will be his last? If he hasn't learned a lesson yet then he probably never will. Maybe a little time in jail is in order.

I do live in Canada but I do not profess to know the law when it comes to stealing. I don't know about this 3 strikes your out system, if this is true then we have to work to change it. I'm all for giving people a second chance, but after that you're on your own.

I think it's time to stop letting this guy pull the wool over everyones' eyes.
