    Using protein
    I recently started using Pro Performance Whey Protein. I've been lifting for a while but I've never used a supplement before. I was wondering when is a good time to take this and how many times a day to take it. I don't want to gain a lot of weight, but I heard if you lift consistently and don't eat a lot of garbage it won't be too big of a problem. I just started taking it this week and I've been taking it before and after my workout. I usually mix it with some milk and just drink it like that. Any suggestions for good times to take it. I read online a lot of people take it in the morning, but I think it might upset my stomach throughout the day since I usually skip breakfast.

    A good time to take it is right after a workout. Also if you are trying to build muscles, you need 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of your body weight. Example, if you weigh 200lbs then 200 grams of protein per day.

    Also, don't mix it with milk. Mix it with water or a preferred juice. If you mix it with milk, it will slow down the absorption. You want the whey to absorb quickly after a workout to put your body into an immediate anabolic state... get those muscles repaired ASAP right after your workout.

    Your requirements all depend on your protein intake. Remember, this is a supplement, not a REPLACEMENT. Make sure you are getting in your high protein solid food meals, then add no more that 2 shakes a day.

    On a personal note, I prefer to take a shake immediately before bed, along with the shake I take after my workout. This helps to feed my body while I sleep instead of fasting during those 7 or 8 hours of sleep. Your body does most of its repair then, so why not feed it... right?

    Don't worry about gaining too much weight, this is NOT a weight gainer. Calories make you gain weight, not protein. And it is a lot harder for your body to breakdown proteins and use them as energy or store them as fat, as compared to carbs and fats. Just keep your water intake high, your carbs moderate-to-low and you will be fine. Good luck.
