Ride On 'Wizard' Lawn Mower won't always start
Hi, I have two problems with my Wizard WZ12B36C Ride on Lawn Mower. It has a Briggs & Stratton Engine. Some times it won't start with the key, mostly it happens when you disconnect the battery. Could this be the Solenoid ? Second problem, the gears are now difficult to select and it won't drive forward with much power now, could this be that I will need a new Gear, Sector? It has already been given a new drive - V-belt, so I don't think it's that.
Thanks:confused:

Are you saying you disconnect the battery and reconnect it to get it to work? As if allowing something to "reset"?

Could be that the linkages are worn, what is the age of the unit?

Hi Mowerman2468, the problem happens after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. So, battery is now reconnected and it now starts, but took some doing. If we disconnect/reconnect the battery again, it'll not even click when you turn the key. I'm guessing Solenoid. The second problem, after some investigation I figure is the Transaxle! Which seems like it's around £300 to replace. Not easy to strip down, since it has around 900 components  if you have any idea where we could get hold of a recon unit we'd appreciate it. Fab mower other than that, couldn't do without it.

Try your local mower shop, they may have some old used units with good transaxles.

How do I get a wizard rider, probably in the 1990-1996 model year range, appears to be hydro drive, to free roll? I've put the F-N-R levr in the "n" position, and moved the speed selector to various position, but still no roll... I know some hydro's have a release valve lever on the rear...
