Married -Wife NonResident and No SSN
    Hi Team,
I am on L1 visa from 26th August 2007 and a resident of US. My wife is a non resident and holds a L2 visa but not visited US at all and has no income at US.
    The following are my questions:
1)Should I file - Married Jointlhy or Married Separately?
2)What should I write in the place of SSN for my wife in 1040 ? She has no SSN
3)Can I leave SSN blank for my wife, since she has no income and can I get a refund for my tax?
3)If my wife has to get ITIN, whether the passport first page and visa copies certified by a notary public in india. Is it acceptable as a valid proof for ITIN
4)Can I give an India address for getting the refund?
    Thanks and Regards

1 & 2) You CAN file jointly with your wife by applying for an ITIN for her using Form W-7. If you file the return without the W-7, it will be rejected.

    3) There has been problems submitting passport photocopies with Indian notarization. Best to get the passport photocopy certified at the U.S. embassy or consulate office.

    4) Yes, but if you have a U.S. bank account, have the refund direct deposited there.
