I hope someone can answer my question. As a background I live in an apartment building (2nd Floor of 3 total). I want to be able to tell my landlady exactly what is going on and the easiest way to fix it so she cannot turn me down as easy.

I have loud popping/knocking noises coming from my floor and possibly wall directly next to a baseboard heating unit (Gas). I have turned my heat all the way on and the pipes seem to pop all night long and all the way off and it NEVER ends. It basically pops fast then slow for about 10 minutes, there is a 1 minute pause and then it does it all over again. I don't know if this problem occures in the summer as I just moved in. It is so loud that I may have to move into the guest bedroom because my master bedroom has been taken over by this. This only occures in the one area in the master bedroom (exterior wall). The apartment was built around 1960 ish (standard brick multiunit place). This is in South Dakota so yes it can get cold but this is a localized problem only... not in other exterior wall baseboard units or pipes.

I have read several posts about possible reasons... air in system, fluxuating temps of pipes, but I would like to know how this can be fixed (short of tearing out walls). I am thinking of having just the plywood floor in that area removed to see if there are any rubber bushings between the joists and the pipe. I wish I could just turn that heater off but 1) I don't see a valve, and 2) its not the actual heater it's the pipe.

What can I tell her (landlady) that will allow her to keep her tenant and my sanity.

Call a qualified contractor in your local area. Unless we were there to hear the noise how would we know where it is coming from or what is causing it.

After the problem is inspected they will be able to give you a idea of how much it will cost to fix.
