    Removing and sealing off toilet
    Hello,
I would like to install a shower in an extra bathroom. First I need to remove the existing toilet, how do I go about this? Once removed I assume I will need to cap the sewer drain, I could use some help on how to do this as well.
    Thanks

You shut the water off to the tank and disconnect the supply. Next you flush and then dip and sponge the water out of the tank and bowl,( careful! You still have a gallon hide in the trap). Now remove the caps from the toilet bolts and unscrew the nuts. Pull the toilet up and out and set it on a piece of cardboard. If you're never going to use the toilet you can pack the closet bend with rags and fill it with cement to seal it off. Good luck, Tom

Hey Marty... just to add to Tom's post. OK.. so you have removed the toilet per Tom's instructions... now... you can cap/cement that toilet fitting (closet bend) or you can cut it in the basement, reduce it to 2" pipe using a mission clamp (sold at most home supply stores..or at all plumbing supply houses) and run that pipe over to the shower drain...will need to put 2" ptrap for a shower drain.

Think about it.. oh... and to cut that closet bend... can use/rent a chain cutter or can use sawzall and 8/10 teeth per inch bi-metal sawzall blades and cut the fitting... a closet bend is thick... so I would go with a chain cutter... but if you are looking for safe/sure bet... then go with sawzall... will take a good half hour or more to cut through a real closet bend... PLEASE NOTE ALSO that there may just be an elbow fitting downstairs and some pipe in back of that elbow.. IF THIS IS THE CASE.. YOU WANT TO CUT BEHIND THE FITTING AT THE PIPE... MUCH EASIER/FASTER to cut!!

Hey, any questions, let us know. Good day.
