    Pregnant, lump in breast
I'm 19 years old and almost 10 weeks pregnant. Tonight I noticed a small ball in my right breast, that isn't in my left. It's towards the center of my body and I'm very concerned because my grandmother on my mother's side had breast cancer 12 years ago. I've heard the cancer skips a gerneration so I'm freaking out. At my first doctor's appointment, 5 weeks ago, he did a breast exam and didn't find anything out of the ordinary, but still... I know being pregnant can cause changes in the breasts since they are getting bigger and a little sore. This ball is just worrying me. Could this be a pregnancy hormone thing, or something more serious? Tell me what you think! :)

Pregnancy can certainly cause changes in breast tissue. At this point, stay calm and just ask your doctor to continue to check the lump regularly.

Also, cancer does not skip a generation. That is a complete myth and simply untrue.

That happened to me in my first pregnancy, all it was basically was new hormones (so I was told) it went away though after my second trimester with the mood swings and crazy cravings.

Any lump in the breast needs evaluation. Call your doctor and ask for an appointment. Most lumps in breast at your age are benign. Tests can be done, even when pregnant. Don't just assume it is okay. An ultrasound can be done safely in pregnancy. A surgeon can also assess the lump. And, yes, breast cancer can occur during pregnancy, but it is rare. A family history of breast cancer should alert your doctor to check your lump more carefully. No, breast cancer does not skip a generation. Hope this helps.
