    Potty problems
We have a 16 week old Miniature Chihuahua. We got her when she was 6 weeks old and we immediately began potty training her on potty pads in the house. She has never gone outside to go potty and we prefer that she doesn't. Up until a week ago, she was doing really well with going potty on the potty pads. She would be playing with a toy and she would get up and run to the potty pad to do her business. Of course we would praise her and reward her for a "good potty" job. Last week, she started peeing every place but the potty pads and has been continuing to do that. She will pee 8 inches from the pad instead of going on it. But, she goes on the potty pad to poop. We aren't sure why she is doing this or what to do to get her to stop. If we immediately catch her doing it off the pad, we tell her "bad dog" in a tone that lets her know she did something bad. We never hit or or rub her nose in it though. HELP!

My sister trained her chiua.. on pads, and within a few months, she treated anything in a square shape as her pads. Mats, towels, etc. Slowly she took the pads closer to the back door, and eventually outside. She still has mishaps, but not as often. I never used pads with my small dogs, and hardly ever accidents in my house.

You may want to take her to the vet to check her for a UTI, maybe she has an infection and is finding it hard to make it to the pad in time.

My min pin is the same way. He will poop on the pad but not pee on it. I suggest you just keep up with the training. And make sure you watch her closely when she is wandering around the house
