    Writing Lyrics
Lately I've been trying to write songs...
But nothing comes out... I can't seem to be.. something..
Anyone who writes music or poetry will know what I mean
I feel that there is so much inside me waiting to come out, I just know there is!
But I need a tap shoved into my heart to let these emotions out and harness them with music but I just... don't know how to do it
For some people things like this come so easily,
What I'm asking is how can I express myself in what I write?
How can I get what's inside me, outside on paper?

Well its like everything is flowing in my head but for some reason I never get lyrics out of it... its not that I'm trying to rhyme things cause that doesn't matter... I'm drawing blanks so to speak

Do you mean that words are flowing in your head?

No I mean I think too much about how I feel that I can't be succinct enough... I could have just said that but again I had trouble expressing what I really meant hahaha how relevant

Are you in love with someone? And, if so, have you ever written letters to that person expressing how you feel about them? I'm just trying to get a "feel" as to where you are at here.

Nah I'm not in love, I'm a little lonely but who isn't. I actually think I'm falling for a girl I know is no good for me but the fact that we've both been on and off liking each other for 6 years is telling me to stick with it for some reason.. even though I tell myself if something does happen ill hate it and be in another dogey relationship I want to get out of

Thanks! So, what are some of the things that you would like to write about in your songs? Also, do you play a musical instrument of any kind?

Yeah I play guitar and piano (not as much piano but enough for a basic bass part and chord progression, a little appeggio if I feel the need)

I'd say how I felt about the girl at the time, I am blessed with the gift of being too charming for my own good (friends tell me I could charm the fleas off a dogs back... not that I would)

I don't know whether I actually felt what I wrote or if I was being romantic to make them feel good and what not...

So, are you saying that you would like to write a song about a girl that you like now or have liked in the past? I find it much easier to compose songs when I am going toward the love mode with someone. I also play a little guitar and a lot of piano, as well as compose, improvise and arrange music, by the way.

I don't really want to write a song about her, besides that the only emotions I'm feelings are just vacant and empty. And that's even harder to write about!

Then, how about we compose a song about the vacancy that you feel in your heart? Is that something that you might like to do?

I would suggest that we compose something very simple that you could also play and sing at the same time. It wouldn't be hard. I could even compose the first line of words if you would like. I have a scanner and could even post the notes as well as the chords on this site. What do you think?

Um it might be easier if you tell me the chords your playing and I will be able to figure out the tempo and changes, I'm pretty good with my ears but I'm not that fantastic at reading music.

What can you read as far as music is concerned? Can you read a simple melody in the treble clef that has only quarter notes, half notes and eighth notes in it?
