    Taxes and dependents
My daughter was in high school for five months and in college part time in the fall. She turned 19 in August of 2007. I am going to claim her on my taxes. She made $2982.00 at her part time job. I know if she files taxes she can not claim herself. Two questions, does she file on her own and if she does, she had put one as her dependents taken out of her checks. Will she have to pay any taxes if she does file on her own? Please help.

Yes, she files on her own - and she indicates that she is claimed by someone else as a dependent (that's you). The fact that she claimed 1 dependent when she filled out her W4 is probably not an issue - depending on whether she has other income she should be getting a refund regardless.

Even as dependent, she gets standard deduction of up to $5,050 of earned income plus $300. So if she had $2982 earned income only, he will get the withheld tax refund.
