Bad news from the doctor/echogenic bowel found
Hey guys, my doctor called a couple days ago to discuss my ultrasound. She said everything look perfectly normal EXCEPT they found that the baby has on [B]echogenic bowel which I hear can be normal OR can be there because of chromosome abnormalities, cystic fibrosis, or viral infections in the baby. I opted out of genetic testing in the begginning and my doc said it was a little too late to do that now but I did get my blood drawn to see if I am a cystic fibrosis carrier. I also understand that it could be caused from the baby swallowing a little bit of blood and that everything is possibly OK. This news frightens me very much... I just need to hear what you guys think, if any of you have came across this scare... anything! Thanks ladies! :o

    Hi rankrank55

I know exactly what you are going through I am currenlty 30 weeks pregnant with my first child, I found out at 25wks that my baby had echogenic bowel, I was referred onto another hospital with better scanning equipment to investigate it further. I had that appointment at 26wks and whilst everything else with the baby was fine I was told, like yourself, that a genetic problem could be the cause. I was offered further tests despite being so far gone i.e amniocentesis and blood tests. I have received the quick results of the amniocentesis and everything appears fine, am still waiting for the full results though :-( Try not to stress, its awfully hard I know but hopefully your little bundle of joy will be fine.

    Good luck with everything!

Sorry to hear of your scare rankrank. I am afraid I don't know anything about this subject. If you Google it(which I am sure you already have) there is lots of helpful sites as well as forums with mothers who talk about their situations with this diagnosis. From my understanding, there is a big percentage of a chance that it could turn out just fine(I read one article that said some doctors consider it a normal 2nd trimester milestone?) and that it varies widely on the type of ultrasound, and the strengths of the waves used? Like I said, I'm sorry I don't know much about this. I'm sure J9 will be able to help more. Hope that it all turns out well, and the worry was for nothing. Please keep us updated, and my prayers are with you and your family
