Goodman Furnace that is not lighting
I have a Goodman Furnace that is not lighting. Of course it is over the weekend and it is -25 windchill below outside... it truly is.
I cleaned the sensor. Anyone have any ideas?

It does not try to light at all. The fans turn on for about 20 seconds or so, then they shut off. It does this 3 times and then it stops. The filter is good.
Thanks,
Dan

When you say fan are you talking about the inducer motor(furnace vent motor)?

You should see a blinking light on the lower door of the furnace small round window. It will give the code to what's wrong(2 blinks pause 1 blink= code 21). If the hot surface ignitor is not glowing when it tries to light it may be burnt out.

By the way, the model GMNT080. I checked the status and there is a red light on the circuit board that is solid red. Nothing blinks.

Did you kill power going to the furnace and then back on to see what it would do?

Yes, I tried that. I have found out that this is one of the first things to try... reboot :)
Is there a way to check if the igniter is bad? Like I said earlier, the fans come on. I have read the igniters go out.

When the thermostat call for heat a few things happen- the inducer motor comes on first the pressure switch has to close the hot surface ignitor will glow for a few seconds and then 24v is gave to the gas valve to open. If the ignitor is not glowing and you can see a big white spot or crack in it. Its bad.

The igniter is behind the jets, so I can't see it. I can only see the top of it. Nothing glows.
So if the igniter is bad, the furnace does not give 24 volts to open the gas valve. Correct?
We have had high winds and it has been very cold today... I think the high was 1 today. It is now 0. Could that have something to do with why it may have cracked, if that is indeed what it is?
Thanks!

High winds can trip the vent limit switch. Top of the furnace but inside it on the vent you should see a small round disk with two wires going to it. Push the small button in the center to see if it clicks and give it a try. The gas valve will get 24v for a few seconds even if the ignitor is not glowing.

Sorry tgo hear about your Goodman, but they are nothing but trouble, and the company I had install mine, Park and Sons or Emergency Heating and Repair in Omaha Nebraska is not honoring his product, or responding to my calls. I suggest you do not install Goodman Furnaces. They are the lowest proce for a reason. Spend the extra money, get a better unit.
