Just a thought... call your town/city sewer department and see if they had any sewer work scheduled in your area at time that issue occurred. BE clear that there was no damages or anything like that... or they may not admit to being out in your area... ;)

Sometimes... not often... I have heard stories where toilets have evacuated (like yours).. or in 1 case actually emptied up and out of the toilets and all over the floors and walls.

Each time it was caused by the city/town using a high powered sewer jet that went down the main drain and was pulling so much suction... actually sucked the toilets (and sink traps, too) empty... or at least emptied like yours did. In the case of the toilet with water on floors... jet water volume backed up the sewer and up and over the toilet rims.

Anyway, give a quick call... let us know. If answer helped please RATE THIS ANSWER by clicking on button below. Thank you.

If you vent stack is clear this issue should not happen. The city sewer guys may have some new super dooper sucker but open vents should handle much of what they can throuw at it.

Glad there is a logical explantion... (or your house was haunted! ).. BUT to follow thrrough... as Ballengerb1 said... your vent stack could be partially clogged... may want to look into that (Up on roof and shine light in/down stack). May also need to run garden hose full pressure to clear any debris from where you can't see.

That may help reduce these issues in the future! Good luck.
