    Stole from employer
I was caught stealing money from my job. The number they reported to the police was 6 times the amount. Is this legal? Won't this affect my bond. Don't they have to prove the amount first?

    Hello judi:

Apparently, you aren't the only crook working there. Tell me, why is it that you can steal from them, but they can't steal from you?

When this comes to trial, they will have to prove it, but they can give an estimate beforehand.

    Judi,

I too was caught up in some of the same stuff but I was not aware of what was going on until the Attorney General office called my cell phone wanting to ask question. They do have to have proof and if they are charge you with 6 counts they have proof believe me. I did not get to spend not one penny of the money that was stolen but I have to help pay back 25,000. And I got three year probation. Lucky for me I have never been in trouble not even a parking ticket, I always had a good work record, I have been doing the same job for 12 years, so that worked out for me. Keep you head up, pray and things will work out. Good luck.

If the money you actually took was say $10,000 and they said $60,000, they will have to prove the amount that you took through discovery documents.

Yes, this will effect your bond to get out of jail. No, they don't have to prove this fact ahead of time, but they will have to prove this at your trial.

The reason they opted for a higher amount is because they have no idea just how much more money you actually took and they are just guestimating at this point to cover their behinds in case they discover more money missing.
