    Starting a Network Development Class.
    Hi,

I am starting my 2nd semester of college, I am a computer major and am entering a Network Development class. The only problem with this is that I really don't understand what "network development" is. I feel kind of dumb, because I've already finished all of the classes prerequisetes and still haven't an idea of what to expect.

All I know is that we are going to be using the program "Window Server 2003 Enterprise edition", which I haven't an idea about what its used for.

I'm just curious if someone could explain what exactly the software does and what it's used for. Really, any help is appriciated. Thanks

I would start by saying that if you truly love computers and want to make it your profession, then you will like this class. If you skip class, you are cheating yourself.

A Network is a grouping of computers that are connected to each other via wired or wireless communications. They share resources such as printers, faxes, telephones and video equipment as well as files and information. This sharing makes it possible for bussinesses to achieve a higher return on their investment.

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise is a server operating system. In the same way that Windows Vista, XP and previous operating systems are geared towards a desktop computer that runs software for productivity, server operating systems have a different goal. Servers are meant to handle multi-user access, security, information sharing, database operations, email, etc.

You are kidding aren't you? You made the decision to major in computer science and you have NO idea what a network is or what Windows Server does? I can understand not quite understanding what a Network Development class will teach. But not to not understand what a network is and what Windows Server does.
