    Sugar addiction?
I have a seriously bad diet. First off I am vegetarian, I eat no meat but can have cheese and milk. I always have had a sweet tooth and ate sugar on a regular basis, but I also ate good food at mealtimes. I had a baby 7 months ago and I ate well for my pregnancy but since I had my little guy, I started craving sweets more and more. I am now to the point were I have vicious sugar cravings and will get cranky and frustrated if I do not eat sugar. I rarely eat anything else. I take multi vitamins but I know they are no substitute for the real thing. It seems impossible for me to stop the cravings I get for sweets, as I now sometimes feel ill at the thought of 'normal' food. My system is completely backwards. I need some kind of help but am unsure as to what to do. Even with all the sweets I eat, I have very little energy, I really am tired all the time. Any suggestions on how I might be able to 'kick' my sugar habit would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

When you eat sugar you have a spike in energy and then you crash. You HAVE to eat some proteins!! Protein levels out your blood sugars and gives you prolonged energy throughout the day. Try some peanut butter on an english muffin to start (since it is sweet and may satisfy that craving at the same time.) Even a "fluffer nutter" or PB&J. Get started on those and work your way back to real food. If you don't you may be more likely to develop type 2 diabetes or other health issues!

Yep you have to get protein somehow. You should also take amino acids, flaxseed oil and make sure you get plenty of fiber.
If you are not getting enough of these it could cause your cravings.

I'd also get checked for diabetes especially if the sugar doesn't satisfy the cravings and makes you tired.

You are headed towards either hypoglycemia or diabetes at 1,000 MPH with a diet like that. Yes, you can be addicted to sugar and sugary foods. You must start eating sensibly immediately or you will end up with some very serious health issues in short order. When you eat protein your body will not crave the sugars. You need to start eating sensibly.

Sugar itself is addicting. It is more addicting at certain times/health stages of your life. Having a baby has likely changed the hormone balance in your body.

Stop eating sugar, just stop. Your appetite for other foods will come back. The sugar cravings will go away, or be far less annoying after a few days. Sugar addiction is my worst problem. If I can avoid sugary foods for a few days, the insanity goes away. One piece of chocolate though, and I am eating 3-6 chocolate bars or more, and cereal, and ice cream and and every day.

Seeing your physician would be a good first step. Rule out diabetes and other things. Decide to get and stay healthy. Be a good mommy and take care of yourself.

I think I have a chocolate addiction... but they're right, if you just try to stop, then you'll find yourself not even thinking so much about it. Or at least it works for me.
