So me and my boyfriend have been dating for about 5-6 months now and with valentines day coming up I have no idea what to get him. Never been with a guy during this time of the year who actually wanted to celebrate it. I'm not really sure what you get a guy for v-day, everything seems to be more for the women. So if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

With the time frame of your relationship, if he is into sports I would definitely try to score a pair of tickets for you and him to catch his favorite team together. I think guys like things that can be enjoyed together. They like time, not so much things. Maybe a gift certificate to messuese or something, but other than that, the good ole tie, and boxers, and all that jazz are pretty blah. If he likes beers maybe get him a sample pack of some micros? You got to give me something to work with. What is he like and what are his interests... and age?

Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with a DVD. A movie he really loves, or from a TV show he really likes, or a DVD about a sports team he likes, etc. DVDs are always winners!

And if he really loved you, he wouldn't care what you got him anyway, so don't sweat it hun. :)


PS - Spending money is the easy way out. I personally think Valentines day is wayyyy over-rated these days, so commercial. Diamond necklaces? Spending 1000 dollars on a necklace means that's how much extra money you had and were willing to part with, which also means this is how much LESS money you have together as a couple. :P Something hand made, like WG said means so much more, because it actually took time and effort. Depends on the attitude of your man, really. Hell, all I want is a real long foot massage! I'm simple like that. :)

For the more info you were asking... he's 19, really into music and movies (but he has so many that I don't think there's a single one that he'd like and doesn't have), not into sports at all (which would have made christmas a lot easier), he's a very outgoing and goofy person. And I know that no matter what I give him he'll love it regardless, I just don't have many ideas. He loves cheesecake so I was going to make one of those myself for him, but I wanted to give him something's else as well.

Good idea. Plus what Sneeze said, a book might be good. Does he watch TV a lot, or is there an actor he really LOVES! Many famous people these days have a book, either a biography or autobiography. That would be a good idea too!

You could go with a NetFlix membership or something like that, that way when something new comes out he hasn't seen or wants to see again it is at his discretion.

Honestly, not to sound dumb or anything, but at 19 I would've have been ecstatic over an evening alone with my then GF now wife. Just a night on the couch watching a season of House or something and snuggling and enjoying eachothers company... ahhh... who am I kidding I would still be ecstatic over the same thing now!

I got one boyfriend a cheesy heart shaped pillow.

He still has it (I ran into him the other day). He said it was cool because it was different than anything else a girl ever gave him, it was not too serious, and we um... added memories to it.

My husband got me a gig of memory last year for my computer. I swooned--it was GREAT, and not a traditional V-Day present.

I'd try going to Target or Walmart and browsing their silly Valentine's section. You can find some cute/cheesy stuff that still says you care without going overboard.

I like how you said you didn't want to do the cheesy idea, and validated that by saying "we are serious" and "we plan on being together for quite some time"... while the person who suggested the cheesy idea and who will probably do it this year is MARRIED.

What's kind of sad here...

My husband and I were just discussing previous V-Days, and the gifts we got each other--and all we can remember are the funny ones, because of the memories that went with them. This Valentines will be our 12th together--and honestly, all we can remember are the fun and funny valentines, because the other stuff is soooooo predictable, and overdone, and cliché.

Making him a cheesecake (or other sweet food) is a great idea! So is a picture of the 2 of you in a nice frame.

I think I'll stick with the fact that when we have a hotel room this year, I've packed the UGLIEST pajamas I can find to lounge in, with the prettiest underwear I could find underneath them... this year, I am the present, and he has to take off the bad wrapping paper to get to the good stuff :)
