How do I raise a laminated cabinet bottom?
My frig died and am getting a new one. My cabinet is, of course, 1/4 inch too low to accommodate the new frig.

I have laminate cabinets above and on both sides of the frig. I have vaulted ceiling but there is a solid strip of laminate above the whole series of cabinets but, I think I can raise the bottom shelf of the over the frig cabinet if you can tell me how to take it apart (it looks glued) without destroying it.

    Widow working on her own.

    Thanks!

I have done 2 installs just like you have described. I scribed the new height onto the valance that was too low. I used an electric planner to remove 1/4" of wood and finished the corners with a chisel. That board is glued and you will destroy way more than you want if you try to remove it.

If the underside is also laminate you can pop it of with a sharp puuty knife. There may be some chipping on the face laminate but minor, put down masking tape first and then cut right through it. The bottom edge will not be seen.
