Hello there! So this is my situation:
6 years ago, I had lived in Ontario.. I now live in Manitoba. At the time I lived in Ontario, I was in a relationship and later found out I was pregnant. During the time, I was at a young age around 17 years old, and the father of my child was young as well. My parents in Manitoba had asked me to come home so they can help me with my pregnancy and help raise the baby, at the time, me and the father of my baby agreed it would be a good thing. However, after I had my child... my ex had told me he was involved in another relationship and that he didn't want nothing to do with me (which sucked, cause I just HAD his baby!).. after that he didn't speak to me, didn't write, phone or even mention the birth of his child, I of course let him in on her development from the time she was born via email, I was even kind to send him pictures as I believed he had that right. Once in a while, he would write back and ask about her, but never did help with her development or provided for her. When I was 18, I had lived on my own and was on welfare, my social worker at the time forced me for child support from him and I had taken him to court, however, I was given nothing as it was a matter of undue hardship (him being under the majority of age). So years went by, and our daughter is now 6 years old, I am now married and have another daughter with my new relationship, however, still to this day.. I keep him updated how his daughter is doing and he keeps me informed that he likes receiving updates on her, even pictures.. however, he still doesn't provide for her.

So.. recently I had contacted a lawyer and he stated I do have a case, but I am worried if the father of my child will just give up his rights to her, since I am married.. I don't want this to happen, because she deserves her real father in her life. But on the other hand, I am worried if I will not receive anything in child support... so to clear my mind, I would like some suggestions about the law systems in canada that involve one parent living in manitoba with the child and the other parent living in ontario. What are his rights? What are my rights? And what can be done for the sake of the child I am raising?

So..recently I had contacted a lawyer and he stated I do have a case, but I am worried if the father of my child will just give up his rights to her, since I am married.. I dont want this to happen, because she deserves her real father in her life. No one can force him to play as a father.He cannot escape his obligations.The fact you are married now does not matter/notwithstanding Canadian law recommends step-parents to pay child support to their step-children even after divorce/.Take him to court and ask for child support,custody and visitation.
