What are the first steps to getting custody?
My name is jasmine and I have a beautiful little 2 yr old girl. Her father lives 3 hours away right now. We were never married but I want to get full custody or at least some type of papers signed stating he has to give her back after a visit. We haven't been to court for anything. He does see her much or call her much anyway so I want to get custody. My husband is in the army and we may have to move and I don't want to get in trouble for leaving the state. Please help!! Thanks

There are at least two possibilities: petition to legitimate child (in my state), and petition for guardianship. Your state may have other remedies. You need a competent lawyer for this and also preparing your last will and testament. You need to consider to whom your life insurance proceeds would go in the event of your death: the father of this child or someone else? So, you may need a trust. The peace of mind is worth the costs.

This situation should be handled by the Courts or it will bite you some years from now.
