ordinaryguy writes: "...denied the right of Habeas Corpus and other due process rights guaranteed by the Constitution from June 9, 2002 until January 6, 2006." This is factually incorrect according to Wikipedia, "...Dec. 18, 2003: The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals orders Padilla to be released from military custody within 30 days and if the government chooses, tried in civilian courts." The government appealed this ruling, as they should have. The history of the case is interesting, and in no way proves President Bush is either destroying the constitution or a closet member of the ACLU. José Padilla (prisoner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
I think some of the President's critics are bordering on hysteria; still not sure what they are drinking.

Now if that is not a violation of civil rights then what is? Held for 5 years in detention without charge in his own country. And I thought the case of David Hicks was poor..

Let's get a grip here . He was part of a plot to detonate a radiological "dirty bomb" inside the US . The way I see it he got off easy . He should've been tried by a military tribunal as a traitor and executed .

Hello again, tom:
In the country I love, ALL our citizens have civil rights - even the worst amongst us.
In the country you love, you've got a government official deciding who gets civil rights and who doesn't. I don't want to live in THAT country.

PS> Maybe we should re-write the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution to read, "The right of due process may not be infringed upon unless you happen to be a really bad guy." Bwa, ha ha ha ha.

If a citizen wages war against his country then why isn't a military tribunal due process ;or do you not think that plotting to detonate a nuclear dirty bomb as waging war ?

Hello again, tom:
I have no problem with a military tribunal as long as its purpose ISN'T to DENY access to the Constitution. THAT was the exact purpose of the tribunal Bush set up, and THAT was the exact reason they failed.
You right wingers need to get your priorities in order. First we have the process, and THEN you get to have your revenge - not before.

Just curious, excon: has your posterboy sued the US and President Bush for violating his civil rights? You know the liberal lawyers are more than ready to hold his hand through that process.

Yeah he has .He sued former White House Att. John Yoo earlier this month . By the way His sentencing is scheduled for today so there should be another rash of news stories about his case.
Assuming that the White House blew the case ;and there is that argument to be made since they had to discard the worse charges against him; the big point is that the BDS crowd will take a single case as an example of wholesale trampling on civil liberties.

That is the price he had to pay to get an ACLU/OJ style legal team. No doubt, he has the right to sue; it will be interesting to follow.

Hello again, DC:
If you're going to post cartoons, you should at least make them historically accurate. In fact, Germany was not behind 12/7.
I'm not surprised you wingers don't know history - not surprised at all.
