Ok, here is my situation and plan to installing a ceiling fan with a light.

1. Existing switch is in place to control a single receptacle.
2. I would like for the receptacle to remain hot always and the switch to control the ceiling fan/light.

My plan is to use 14/3 wire and make a run down to the switch and uses it for the fan. The question is connections, please walk me through the connections needed. I believe all the white go together under one nut. All green are intertwined under the grounding screw. I am not sure about the black witch will be the hot? Do I need a jumper?

For the receptacle to stay hot just connect the wires currently on the switch. Make sure the power is off before you start. The switch should have had a black wire coming in and another black leaving or it could be white with black tape. Thes two get wire nutted together and you receptacle is now hot 24/7. Now you need to pull power for your fan. Run a pig tail from your black wire that you just twisted togetehr over to the feed side of your switch and connect the bl;ack from your 14/3 but you'd be fine with 14/2. Now here is the kicker. We need to get the new 14/3 white to a neutral, is there one running through the old switch box?

The easiest way to wire this will depend on whether the power supply feeds the switch, or the outlet (in which case there is a switch loop). One of the two boxes may only have two wires plus ground. Please tell us what wires you have in each box, the switch and switched outlet respectively.
