    Where to pay taxes
    Hi
I am a citizen from Switzerland and living since December 2007 in Milwaukee, WI. I work for an American company but get paid from the headquarter in Switzerland. My work visa is a E1. Where do I have to pay taxes. In Switzerland or in USA?

    Thanks in advance

    Pat:

You have been in the U.S. for about a month, too short of a time to be taxable (per IRS Pub 901) in 2007.

You do not even have to file if no taxes have been withheld from your pay in 2007.

Now, for 2008, you WILL owe taxed if you were in the U.S. for more than 183 days in 2008.

    Thank you very much.
So, I'll probably go back in July 2009. Is it in my responsibility to get registered? Or will they contact me.

    There is no registration involved.

However, your employer should be withholding the appropriate taxes from your pay and sending it to the U.S. government, then issuing you're a W-2 to use to file your tax return.
