    Puppy Names
    HI everyone!

In a few weeks I'm getting a labradoodle from doodlestolove.com and I'm getting a blonde labradoodle boy. I was hoping for a cute, easy to say, and not get mixed up with prissy(my cat) name. So far I got the name riggs, pooka and that's it. Can I have some suggestions?:)

Dogs really respond to names that have S's in them. Wait until your doggy earns his name. Or call out any ideas and see which get a response.

There are links to sites with names in the sticky at the top of thepage. I have used Nita Chocktaw for bear cub for a black Lab, and Xanthe Greek for yellow for the yellow Lab I have now.

I agree with chihuahua... wait until the dog "earns" its name. That doesn't mean make it work for the name, but simply... maybe it has a weird quality? Maybe a weird habit?

My childhood dog had one ear down and the other up so we called it floppy... sad, but it worked.

Having a name from the beginning is very important, much more important than what the name is. Obedience training, of which housebreaking is the foundation, needs to start the day you get the puppy. I start as soon as the paper work is finished when I pick up a 7 week old puppy. I have its leash and collar on it. I set it on the floor of the kennel lobby, call its name, and follow it with heel and start for the door. I have already used its name frequently. If it doesn't come, I gently encourage it.

Be sure and read through the rest of the sticky to get your new puppy off to a good start.

Oh I love so many names! Depends on if your going for a human name, or more of a dogs name. Miles, Harley, Charlie, oh the list can go on and on.

Here is a list of dog names that start with S (since ChihuahuaMomma said they respond to the S sound.)

Okay, I'm going to share the name I think I want to use for my next dog (if it's not too big)... are you ready? It's HUGGY. If you like it, you can use it.

I checked out the "S" list (great idea combo, CM and Mafia), and my personal favorite is Sammy. It's a dog name, it's a human name, it's sweet, it's cute, it's S-based...

I don't know what kinds of names you might like (or might hate), so I'll just throw a list out there (because this is fun for me too!) I like Giorgio, Valentino, Henry, Mozart, Leonardo (Leo), St. Peter, Natale (Italian for Christmas), Jack, Jefferson, Leo, Oscar, William, Abe, Arrow, Paint, Clay, Bumble Bee, Governor, Attila, Aaron, Ruby, Sparkles, Bunny, Bear, Cookie... I could do this all day long. :)

You should come up with a list of names, and then let him choose which one he likes when you meet him.

I named a friend's kitten; he's now Pavarotti (he liked to sing-meow). I was in a different forum a couple of weeks ago, and a woman was looking for a name for her super black cat. I chose Crayon.

Between dogs and cats and the rest of our zoo, I've had a Harley, a Charlie, a Sugar Ulysses, a red persian named Prince Charming, a red persian named Arthur, a siamese-lynx named Peekaboo, Lizzie the anole lizard, Scratchers the gerbil, 3 frogs, about 40 goldfish whose names I have long since forgotten, a pond full of unnamed coy, and 20 unnamed crickets living in a tank in my room when I was 11, but they were so noisy they didn't deserve any names. My little sister had a persian named Snowball and a gerbil named Princess Bride. My first pets were two siamese cats named Sundance and Judy.

I peronally perfer unusual names. There are too many "Buddy's" out there, if you know what I mean. My girls are named Shiva and Sarabi.
