Running new wire behind plaster walls
If I run new wiring behind my plaster walls will there be any code issues because I am unable to tack it to a stud behind the plaster? I am trying to do this without destroying the walls.

An electrician would know for sure. I once lived in a rental where the wiring in plastered rooms had been attatched to the walls, where you could see it. It wasn't bad, it was covered in plastic which matched the paint and was easy to clean. It was legal too.

Are you just running the wires or is this a cable?

Fish and upgrade to where you need to, don't need to attach to studs.
Run cable, phone, computer, if you need.

Old Plaster walls [ 5 Answers ]

Ok, just want to check if it is kosher to put a wall frame over top of an old plaster wall, and then drywalling over that. This would negate any removal of the plaster and lath, saving a lot of work! Also leaves it open to move wiring around, which wouldn't be possible if I just drywalled right...
