    Not guilty
I was told by security at a store that he saw me take a scarf worth a dollar forty. He said he 100% saw me take it. I did not take it. While being stopped they found a bottle of supplements for sexual labeto for age 65 woman and older.(I am 32). In the cart out in the open next my 4 year old. I had been looking at supplements and must have lade them down while browsing. I didn't see them and can not remember that I put them down. My son was in a tantrum. While distracted I left the isle. After paying 150.00$ for items I was stopped at the door, brought in the office and charged with shoplifting under 5000$. I brought the scarf in to the police( that had a wal-mart tag on it and asked them to look into it). I bought the scarf in Halifax. The police went to a wal-mart here in newfoundland, They and scanned the sown in tag with the UPC. It did not match. So they don't know who's product it is. The police officer said I could have put that tag on from another product. Any way If convicted what could happen ? Do I get a criminal record?  I am 32 and have never been in trouble with the law. I am a mother and a funeral director that many people know and can say I am a good person. The whole thing is so bad. I did not take that scarf and I did not realize the product was in my cart.
PS Many people I know can say that they have seen me with that scarf for months!!

Where did you and when did you get the scarf, did you have a receipt for it. And sorry but even I have to wonder why the UPC on the tag did not match the product. ** this is a common method of shop lifters to change the tag to a lower price and then actually check it out. So sorry it is not BS it is a fact of life that happens every day, esp at places like Walmart.? And if you had it for moths why did it still have a code on it?
Sorry again, but you used a scarf for moths with a tag on it?

But yes if convicted or if you plead guilty you will have a criminal record.

I mean the tag on the scarf it also has ucp codes on it. I got the scarf in Dec in halifax. The store here in newfoundland is different. I would say they didn't match the product for I did not get it here. I do not know why it doesn't match. The cop said the product from the tag has a liner and my scarf does not. I guess people would change stuff. I DID NOT. THE SCARF WAS 1.40$ on sale from 5.00$ If I bought 150.00 in items why would anyone steel 1.40$ The police said the guy who( saw everything) is new in his potion. He miss understood what he saw. I tried on a scarf and put it back on the rack because I am looking for a long one.
1st time offenders get a record? I know nothing about this stuff I have never had something happen like this!

Well in the end, it will be up to the judge, if you convince him ( her) then you will be found not guilty, But if you plead guilty or if you are found not guilty there will be a criminal record.

Now if you get an attorney, they may be able to work a deal out with the DA to drop charges if you do certain things.

I think if you were talking either the supplements OR the scarf you would have less of a problem; both - a problem.

(And people pay for some things and steal others because they enjoy the thrill or they think the store is overpricing items so that's how they level the playing field.)

I very seldom work for the Defendant but I did a shoplifting case involving a woman who was trying to carry a frozen turkey out of the store, tucked into her pantyhose, in a wheelchair, so nothing surprises me. She had no idea how it got there!

The turkey very weird. A mother with an upset child and a non concealed item different. I get a thrill every time my pager goes off and I got to go to work in a rush. Steeling is against my morels and in front of my kid that is disgusting. What do people on a first offence get will the crown prosecute 40$ in court? How do keep it out of court?

I thought the supplements were hidden by your son's leg?

(And, yes, the turkey was weird and has turned into one of my very favorite "workplace" stories of all time.)

Are you in Canada? The UK? I am totally unfamiliar with the laws and system.

Interesting but not a legal defense - who knows what the store thought you were going to do with them. Would you cook and serve a turkey you'd been carrying around in your pantyhose? Apparently the woman I worked for was going to - go figure.
