    Pilot light &thermocouple
My pilot light on my gas heating goes out occasionally. I changed the thermocouple and I can light the pilot and it stays on , but after the burner comes on and runs awhile and goes off , after awhile the pilot goes out again. What seems to be my problem ?

My pilot light on my furnace sometimes goes out too. I think the force of the burner igniting is extinguishing it. Apparently the previous owners of the house had the same issue.

There is a sardine can with stones for weight, holding the lid from the can in place. The can lid is in front of the pilot. This apparently deflects the force of the burner igniting, because with it in place, the pilot stays lit.

It may not be the best solution, but it solves the problem. I look forward to seeing a better solution to the problem.

I think that you may have the right idea about the force of the burner going off is causing a draft that pulls the fire away from the pilot. The tuna can sounds OK to me if it works but there is a solution, if is an automatic re-lighter, about $25 for parts. As soon as the re-lighter realizes that the pilot is out it starts to spark to relight the pilot, the thermocouple does not even have the time to cool and snap out before the piolet is on again.
