Yeah, they are backing away from stopping it but you should see the “pork” they are throwing into the legislation.

“Democrats in Congress are saying, "Oh, they want to grant that request to continue funding the war, even though they also want to end the war." Why? Because some of these same congressmen will also be giving themselves an additional $20 billion, with a "B", for emergency pork projects that is just -- that is just riddled in this bill, and the bill just got a green light from the appropriations committee today.”

I think it's funny, the left got spanked by Bush last year in spite of their best efforts. This would be a good time to remind everyone of Michael Moore's words from November 2006:

The responsibility to end this war now falls upon the Democrats. Congress controls the purse strings and the Constitution says only Congress can declare war. Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi now hold the power to put an end to this madness. Failure to do so will bring the wrath of the voters. We aren't kidding around, Democrats, and if you don't believe us, just go ahead and continue this war another month. We will fight you harder than we did the Republicans.
Come on Michael, sic 'em! Rrrrufff!

I am beginning to sense an ugly, family quarrel among Democrats; a growing tide of optimism and momentum among Republicans, and victory in November.

Those anti-war groups did a lot of damage to our cause in Iraq, the Iraqi people’s cause, our credibility in the world, and our domestic politics. Thanks to them, the effort in Iraq was made much more difficult. Of course, they had their comrades in the mainstream press and in Congress. And the administration’s screw-ups didn’t help either.

But it was the anti-war groups, with all of their radical anti-American hysteria, that made getting here a longer, slower, and deadlier slog than necessary. Now they’ve dropped their routine faster than a speeding bullet. But they have left a devastating legacy in their wake. When they ask the president how he looks himself in the mirror, perhaps they might ask themselves that same question. :p

Iraq faces a period of economic growth and political progress, according to assessments by the International Monetary Fund and the UN.

The IMF sees 7% growth in 2008 and a similar rise next year, and says oil revenues from buoyant exports should be up by 200,000 barrels a day.

So it was the anti-war groups fault that the war in Iraq was difficult? Go figure:confused:

So the people who decided to go in and their reasons for doing so have nothing to do with the matter. Interesting.

Oh Skell! In America, fact has become fiction and fiction is now fact. The mainstream media is owned by the neocons like Rupert Murdock. They have pumped this war from the beginning. This is all designed simply to... MINDF*#K.

Ah, so we're back to FNC being the problem. Last I checked Murdoch did not own the NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, CBS, NBC, ABC or CNN and all of their spawn. But why let a little fact get in the way of a good conspiracy? :p

Right, like the stories from the MSM on the economy all week. Like the cries about Bush trampling our rights all year. Like the threat from global warming... yeah, the right sure has a monopoly on fear mongering.

NK, you're obviously missing the point though all of those are debatable. Those who keep protesting of Republican fear mongering must not have mirrors in their homes. They sure can't see their own reflection in this fear mongering game.

So you firmly believe that there was a war on Christmas and that there is a war on America by the liberals?

    Hello George:

I don't know if this turkey would call me a warrior against America, but I suppose he would. He'd be wrong. In fact, I'm quite the patriot. Since he evidently has a point of view, his reporting is therefore, suspect – at least to me.

What I can tell you is that I have been against this war from the beginning. I was against it before we went in, and I was against it when Bush wrongly declared victory the first time.

I am still against the war. It has cost us MORE than it has gained. In fact, I daresay that we haven't gained a thing. Given the bigger picture, we are the NET loser.

I have never wavered from that viewpoint, and I don't do so now. The fact that you're declaring victory for a second time, doesn't dissuade me at all. The final chapter on Iraq has yet to be written.

I don't belong to ANY group. I don't speak for the radical left. I have no idea what they say or do because I'm not them. If you'd like to argue with ME, however, I'll take you on. But, I don't speak for nobody.

    excon

PS> In fact, I'm about to post how the Bush doctrine in the Middle East has done a radical flip flop!
