I am installing a sauna, and I hit the new sauna wire with the blade of my reciprocating saw. It damaged the covering of the wire and partially cut one of the small copper wire strands inside. It's a red and black inside with a ground. Each has 7 copper strands in them. The wire says NMD 90 300 volts. Can I still attach and use this wire as is, or will I burn my house down? I just wrapped it with electrical tape for now.

What do I do?

The gouge into the copper has created a point that may heat up once the sauna is operating at full capacity.

Best to repair this by cutting the cable and resplicing in a junction box.

Since the cable is probably #6 copper, with three wires cut you now have 6 #6 wires, each needing 5 cubic inch of space, for a total of 30 CI.

You will need at least a 6" x 6" x 4" is the most common size box available.

I get that your using a 3 wire cable, with black red and what as a ground?

Is the third wire bare?

This is not a ground, usually.

Does your sauna need 120/240 volts? If so, you have the wrong cable, and need 4 wire, with a black, red, white, and bare.

What exactly do you have for a sauna and cable?

The wire says " LL 90 458 CSA AWG 8 Red Black NMD 90 Nylon -25 300 Volts"

It has a red and black with a bare ground in the middle.

The sauna wire is to power a Fenno wall mount heater.
