    By law everyone can get one free credit report per year... go to Experian as excon said or any of the other two major companies.

    I agree that you have to be careful of sites like freecreditreport.com... they might give you a "free report" contingent upon enrolling in a program that you have to opt out of within a certain time or you get charged.

    Technically, you can get a free report from them, but you need to opt out of their enrollment.

    The link fr chuck gave is one without hassles.

    That said, I have used freecreditreport.com before and bought their 3 report with scores pkg and was pleased.

    I will say I belong to one of the credit services, I can look online at my three credit reports anytime I want, and anytime there is a change to any credit report I am notified by email. So often a paid service can supply a lot of help to watch your credit

    In your credit report there is a form and instructions on how to challenge the information.

    You can't appeal it merely because you have a bad rating,
    You can challenge any wrong or incorrect info on it.
    For example if there is a debt that was paid but is showing unpaid, if there is a debt that is not yours. And so on
