Hi ,

Im project manager of a 8 story building and I'm in charge of choosing the type of tubings for piping of sewage system and waste water . I'm wondering if I have access to Cast-Iron and UPVC pipings, which of these pipings is more reliable and although I know cast-iron is too out of date but I've heard it has longer life time than polymers like Polyvinilcholoride and Polypropylene, Which one you sugest and why ?

If your local code allows it, I'd go with Schedule 40 PVC for the drain, waste and vent piping.

It is a denser material than ABS, which means it will be a little quieter -- And it is less susceptible to the rigors of sunlight; ABS piping that has sat out in the sun for too long in the yard of a supply house has a tendency to warp.

If there is to be a parking garage below, then the local authority may require No-Hub cast iron piping in the garage area with approved fire stops and approved cast to plastic transitions.

As for water piping, I would go with Wirsbo's Aqua-PEX where allowed in the living spaces and copper where it isn't allowed.
