Hi To All I am in Need ofhelp I am what you would call a Experienced Newbie I have taught myself most of what I know over the last 10 years.

I Have na Dell 2 Gig and 19" Lcd Monitor with Win XP2 Professional on Office 2007 a Canon Scanner Printer a Linksky Router on a D-Link 302 Modem connected to Engin VoiP

I want to Network my Equipment to my Daughter's Dell equipment in her home office 200 miles away,so my wife can do all of her officework from our place and either email or Fax it out to my Daughters customers or prepare it all and forward the "Finished Quotes and Data" to my Daughters computer so she can send to her clients what is the best and easiest way to do this please?

My daughter has Windows XP2 STANDARD and Outlook expreess as her Email and Office 2007 Can she download and Run Outlook the same as I have or is that only on Win Proffessional? Thank's and I look forward to andy advice forthcoming Gratefully Dasha

You don't need to network. Just e-mail the files back and forth.

I want to suggest a different approach to your question

I like a program called Pal Talk, this allows me to open a room

I can make a password -- and give it to only those I want in my room

I can talk to everyone in the room --- you can send files -- and even

Have web cams so they can see each other... You both need to download

The program and put each other on your buddy list... When you want to talk

You press Ctrl key and speak into a mike -- raise a hand to get other persons

Attention... I talk to people all over the world UK, Canada, Australia -- Works Great

There are a paid versions but I get along fine with a free one --

I go into the computer rooms and get lots of help

Another way is to set up your daughters computer as an SSH server. You'll also have to set up a dyndns client so you'll know the ip address of your daughters computer. Dyndns is built into some routers, but info is here: DynDNS -- Dynamic DNS, E-Mail Delivery and Other Services.

Your daughters router will have to open the ssh port which I believe is 22 and forward it to her computer. SSH transfers data in encrypted form.

VPN is another alternative.

VPN is definitely the safest way to do it. Many of the home use routers are sold with a VPN version. Mine will allow up to two concurrent VPN tunnels.

To set up a VPN tunnel, you will have to know the IP address of both routers. If you have fixed addresses assigned to you by your ISP (at an added cost of course), this will make it easy. You can maintain a continuous connection without having to reconfigure both ends every time your ISP's assign new addresses to your router.

Also, similar to what Biggsie has mentioned, Windows Live will allow you to set up file share points on each computer where you can trade files, photos, etc. back and forth as well as use the Video Phone calls. My wife and I use it when I travel overseas and if she can make it work, most people can.
