The HOT water in my master bath is very slow compared to the cold. How can I get the HOT water to flow faster?

My house was built in 2002 and is, with lower level, about 6600 sq ft.

What kind of faucet? What brand? Is the handle metallic or plastic?

Is it the shower or the sink or both with low hot pressure? I know its been two days, did the problem fix itself?

It is only that one tub. It is a Kohler with Brass fixtures. The problem has been like this since house was built. I simply did not care about it much then. Now, I want it fixed.

Remove the handle with an allen wrench and adjust the hot water high limiting device under the handle.

Doug is taking the smart approach since the chances are it did not get plugged during installation. An improperly installed anti-scald device or temp limit is the logical approach. If that does not help we can alsways go back and check the installation technique.

Hello MP. I have taken all the above advice given. In your case there was no screw to adjust. With regard to my being able to take off the plate and adjust the flow, that did allow me to turn the stem, however, when I did alll I got was lower pressure (flow)) and turning it further around just turned it off completely.

After that, I went down in my basement to see if there were any evident valves that I might adjust. I did not see any. Any other suggestions. Again, the cold water flow is great. Anything on the other water heater I might adjust? I DO appreciate the help. It is kind of fun trying to track this down! ;-)

Hi Tony... this is a problem with a Kohler tub/shower valve... yes? Or is this a two handle tub valve.. I may have misunderstood the problem... please advise further... I am trying to piece together the posts and am a little confused. If a two handle tub valve you want to talk to doug238 a little more... seems he had an idea for you that may work... :) Let me know

Hi MP. Two handles. His idea did not work. It just allowed me to spin the stem around. The water came on (low pressure) and turned off when I tried what Doug suggested.

As long as you did what Doug238 suggested and it did not work... then next, I would shut off the hot water (@water heater perhaps), remove the stem assembly from the hot water side and check to see if pressure increases reasonably when a friend say pulsates the hot water heater shutoff (use cell phones to communicate as this is hot water! ). This may force any "clog" out of the valve... or it may tell you that there is in fact still a reduced pressure issue and that it is further back then the stem assembly... Never know, you did say this has been this way from the beginning of bathroom... So it could be a defective two handle valve right from the start... RARE.. but just another thought... Let me know.

It being two handled, I have to wonder if you have a pressure balanced valve.

Are the two handles Hot and Cold -- Or is one a volume control and the other a temperature control valve?

If it's the first, then I'm stumped -- If it's the latter, then it's likely the pressure balancing spool is shot.

Tony, the anti-scald device is not normally a screw. Look for some white plastic rings that have teeth like a gear. They should be right after the escutcheon plate is removed. Do you see something like this?
