    Bought a used duerr chipper and it won start
    I bought a used chipper that hasn't been used but a few times I know thi becaue I know the old owner he didn't have a manuel for it but now it just won't start I know it set up a couple of years any ideas what's wrong

    Start by doing an oil change, plug replacement & gap, drain old gas and open the carb bowl. Drain the carb and flush the bowl, carb and needle valve with carb cleaner. Temporarily remove the air filter completely until you get it started, then install a new filter. Spray a bit of cold weather starting fluid into the air intake and give it a go.

    Carb is probably gummed up. Remove the carb and clean it thouroughly and then reassemble and readjust.

In the recent wind storm a 100' fir tree fell on my shed crushing my 13 year old Duerr chipper(shredder, blower,bagger). We have owned a Yard Machine Chipper/shredder by MTD, 5.5hp for several years. It has always been difficult to start. We have done the expected maintenance, but doesn't seem to help. Anyone out there with a real clue? Bad owners or bad machine??
